Reads the feelings in your voice

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Realbind Inc. ("we", "us") sets out below how information about users is handled in the application "Kimocchi" (the "App"). This English text is provided for your convenience; where it differs from the Japanese original, the Japanese text governs.

The App reads the feelings in what you say or write, and keeps a record of them. What you entrust to us is used to read those feelings, and so that you can look back on them later. It is never used to target advertising, or for analysis that would identify you.

01Information we collect

The App collects the following.

(1) Information you entrust to the App

(2) Information collected as you use the App

(3) Information collected to show the weather (only if you turn it on)

Only if you turn on “Show the weather” in the App's settings, we obtain your device's approximate location so that the weather can be recorded alongside your entries. This setting is off to begin with. Unless you turn it on, no location information is obtained.

When the weekly “Looking back” piece is written, and only then, we send the weather category alone to our servers along with that week's entries. We do not send the temperature or your location.

Location is used only at the moment the weather is looked up. We do not trace your movements, keep a record of the places you visit, or use location for advertising or ad targeting. Turning the setting back off stops any further collection.

The App's settings also include a route to your device's own location permission (“Location settings”). Revoking the permission there stops any further collection as well.

(4) Plan and invitation information

(5) Information you give us when you get in touch

02Where your records are stored

What you record is stored on your device. We do not store your recorded audio, your transcripts, the numbers describing your voice or the feelings read from them on any server we operate.

To read your feelings we send the transcript, or the text you typed (and the numbers describing your voice), by way of our server — but it is discarded once the reading is done, and never stored.

What we do hold on our servers is limited to what is needed to run invitations and points: your invite code, the points granted through invitations, the character you chose, and running totals of your measurements and of your "friends". Those servers run on Google Cloud Platform / Firebase, provided by Google LLC. We apply protective measures including encryption in transit and at rest.

For each reading, we also add the number of "friends" computed from the feeling percentages to a daily total that cannot be traced to any person, and show it in the App as "Everyone's box". Nothing you said, your voice, or your writing is part of this total, and none of it is stored.

When a reading is made we also classify what was said into one of a fixed set of settings (school, work, family, friends, health and so on) and count it per day in a form that cannot be traced to any person. That setting is also sent to usage analytics as part of the record of each reading, together with the number of characters you said or wrote. There it may be analysed, under your device's ID, together with your age group, gender and where you heard about the App (if you answered). None of this includes what you said or wrote itself, and none of it is used to identify you or to deliver or target advertising.

Because your records live on the device, we cannot carry them over or restore them for you. If you use your device's backup (iCloud Backup on iPhone and iPad, Google's backup on Android), your records, including recorded audio, may be included in that backup and restored from it. This is handled by Apple or Google according to your device's settings, not by us. Use the App's export feature (PDF / CSV) to keep anything you want to hold on to.

If you turn off "Keep transcripts" in Settings, the text itself is not stored on the device either — only the mix of feelings is recorded.

03How we use it

We use the information collected only for the following purposes.

  1. To read feelings from your voice or text and show you the result
  2. To store your records so you can look back on them in the calendar and daily screens
  3. To write text based on those records, such as "For you, on this day"
  4. To maintain and improve the quality of the App, and to investigate faults
  5. To understand which age groups and genders use the App, what kinds of situations people talk about, and where people heard about it, so we can improve it (usage analytics)
  6. To manage subscriptions and invitation points
  7. To prevent misuse and keep the App safe to provide
  8. To reply to your enquiries

We never use your audio or text to deliver or target advertising. We may use it, after processing it statistically into a form that cannot identify an individual, to improve the App.

04Reading feelings, and our use of generative AI

Reading your feelings and writing the replies is done with the Gemini models offered on Google Cloud's Vertex AI. To do so, we send the text you entered (for audio, the transcript produced by your device's speech recognition) by way of our server. For entries recorded by voice, we also send the numbers describing your voice (see 01 (1); the five-step comparisons with your usual voice are sent only while you are subscribed to a paid plan). When writing "For you, on this day", the weekly letter, "Looking back" or a diary, we send, to the extent needed, the records for that day or period (transcripts, diary text, headlines, the mix of feelings, the mood score, and, for "Looking back", the weather category) together with any instructions you have typed for the diary's writing style. All of this is sent without anything that directly identifies you, such as your name or email address.

We never send your voice itself. Turning how your voice sounded into numbers happens entirely on your device.

Turning speech into text is done by the speech recognition built into your device's operating system: Apple's speech recognition on iPhone and iPad, and on Android the device's speech recognition service (usually Google's). On iPhone and iPad the App asks for on-device recognition first, but where that is not available, your voice may be sent to Apple's servers to be turned into text. On Android, recognition normally goes through the provider's servers, and switches to on-device recognition when there is no connection. This processing is carried out by Apple or Google under their own terms and privacy policies, not on our behalf, and we never receive the audio. It takes place whenever you record by voice, whether or not "Read with AI" is on. If you prefer, you can type your entries instead.

On Vertex AI, data you send is never used to train Google's generative AI models.

Before the first reading, the App shows you what this involves and asks for your consent. If you decline, or if you turn off "Read with AI" in the App's settings, the App sends no text or voice numbers, and reading falls back to a rough, on-device method.

05Sharing with third parties and external services

Except where required by law, we do not provide personal information to third parties without your prior consent.

We use the following external services to provide the App, and entrust the handling of information to them to that extent.

Google LLC
Reading feelings (Gemini on Vertex AI), running our server and holding invitations and points (Google Cloud Platform / Firebase), identifying devices and preventing misuse (Firebase Authentication anonymous sign-in / Firebase App Check), usage analytics, crash reporting and performance measurement (Firebase Analytics / Firebase Crashlytics / Firebase Performance Monitoring), and hosting of this site (Firebase Hosting)
Open-Meteo
Looking up the weather (only if “Show the weather” is on; we send the rounded latitude and longitude). We never attach your name, email address, device ID or anything else that identifies you
RevenueCat, Inc.
Managing subscription status
Apple Inc. / Google LLC
Processing payments through the App Store and Google Play

If your device's region setting and time zone both indicate the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom or Switzerland (if only one of them can be read, we go by that one; this is decided on your device only, without location data or any network request), we do not collect usage analytics (Firebase Analytics), crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) or performance measurements (Firebase Performance Monitoring) until the App has asked for and received your consent. They stay off until you agree. Declining does not limit any feature of the App, and you can change your choice at any time under “Share usage info” in the App's Settings. If you decline, or later withdraw your consent, the analytics ID and any crash reports not yet sent are deleted from your device. The App shows no advertising and does not use storage for advertising purposes (ad storage under Google's consent mode).

Some of these services may store information outside Japan. We supervise our processors as necessary and appropriate.

06Retention and deletion

Records kept on your device are removed from the device when you delete the App. Anything included in a device backup (iCloud or Google) is kept or deleted according to your device and backup settings. Because we do not hold your records, we cannot restore them for you.

The invitation and points information held on our servers is kept for as long as you use the App. If you ask us to delete it, we will erase it within a reasonable period, except where the law requires us to keep it — please get in touch.

07Access, correction and suspension of use

If you ask us to disclose, correct, add to, delete, suspend the use of, or stop the third-party provision of your personal information, we will confirm your identity and respond promptly in accordance with the law. Please send such requests to our contact address.

08Security measures

To prevent the leakage, loss or damage of the information we collect, we encrypt it in transit and at rest, restrict access rights, and limit who may handle it.

09Use by children

If you are a minor, please use the App with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not collect information from children under 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian.

10A note on health and medicine

The App is not a medical device, and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent illness. The feelings and scores it reads are not medical assessments. If poor physical or mental health continues, please consult a medical professional.

Only if you allow it in the settings, the App connects with Health on iPhone (Apple HealthKit) and Health Connect on Android (Google Health Connect).

11About this website

This site is served by Firebase Hosting, and the serving infrastructure may retain records such as access times and IP addresses. These are used to understand delivery status and to respond to faults. This site does not use cookies for advertising purposes.

This site uses Google Analytics to count page views and taps on the store buttons, and may use cookies for this. We do not send your name, email address or anything else that directly identifies you. For visits from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, measurement runs without storing cookies. For how Google handles this data, see Google’s policy.

12Changes to this policy

We may change this policy in line with changes to the law or improvements to the App. When we make significant changes, we will announce them in the App or on this site.
